ATN News journalist tests positive for Covid-19
The journalist is currently in isolation at his home and receiving treatment
A journalist from private television channel, ATN News, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
A circular signed by ATN News Chief Executive Editor Munni Saha has confirmed the matter.
The journalist, who had gone on a month-long training abroad, returned to Dhaka on March 21. He went directly to his home, from the airport, and stayed under home quarantine for 14 days, the circular says.
He went to work on April 5 without showing any symptoms. However, after four days, he caught a fever, the circular reads.
As the journalist started showing other symptoms – including a cough and body aches – the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) collected his samples from his home on April 10 for Covid-19 testing.
On April 11, the test results came positive and IEDCR informed him of the news, the circular continues.
ATN News authorities have sent 20 other employees – from the reporting, cameraman, producer, and desk teams – who came into contact with the infected journalist, to home quarantine.
The circular also mentioned that the journalist is currently in a stable condition. He did not develop difficulties with breathing and his fever and body aches have subsided. He is in a good mental state. The journalist is currently in isolation at his home and receiving treatment. ATN News authorities took responsibility for his treatment.
