Bangladesh recorded five more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 350 new cases in the last 24 hours till Saturday at 8am. The number of novel coronavirus cases in the country has now risen to 5,43,024.
The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 8,342, read a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Saturday's infection rate was 3.14% of the total tests though the overall rate in the country to date was 13.80%. The death rate now stands at 1.54%.
Among Saturday's victims, three were men and two were women. Four of them died in different hospitals across the country while one died at home.
All the victims hailed from Dhaka.
Meanwhile, 11,148 samples were tested in 210 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 39,33,637 samples have been tested in the country so far.
Also, 424 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 4,90,892 with a 90.40% recovery rate.
The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
