"The Durbar Kandari Emergency Ventilator will solve the ventilator crisis in Bangladesh - this is our expectation"
In a bid to help the ventilators crisis amid the coronavirus situation in the country, the students of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) have developed a ventilator for medical use.
A team named Durber Kandary comprised of some students of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department made the medical device under the supervision of the department Professor Dr Md Masud Rana.
The Durbar Kandari Emergency Ventilator 'is made with very low cost indigenous technology and is also very easy and safe to operate. This ventilator has been redesigned following the model of the Emergency Ventilator developed by the world renowned University of Goa.
The new device was announced at a press conference organised by the Durbar Kandari team on the RUET campus on Tuesday afternoon in the presence of the university Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Md Rafiqul Islam Sheikh.
Rafiqul Islam Sheikh said, "The Durbar Kandari Emergency Ventilator will solve the ventilator crisis in Bangladesh - this is our expectation."
Supervisor and Project Director Prof Masood Rana said, "This ventilator can be manufactured at a cost of only Tk30,000-35,000 as it uses indigenous technology and is designed only for the needs of patients with coronavirus.
The ventilator was developed by Team Durbar Kandari Ruet, formed during the coronavirus epidemic and lockdown. The students of RUET associated with making the device have come together from different parts of the country through the internet to complete the work of making this ventilator, and they are working day and night to improve it.
