Italian nurse commits suicide, in fear of spreading the virus
"The nurses are always in heavy stress and fear that they might infect others. Not everyone can get over this pain and dismay and the death of our colleague is a result of that." said Italy's National Federation of Nurses
A 34-year-old Italian nurse has taken her own life in fear of having spread the coronavirus while giving treatment.
A written statement by the National Federation of Nurses of Italy said she was working in a local hospital which was identified as "one of the major Italian fronts of the pandemic," reports Fox News.
It also said, "The nurses are always in heavy stress and fear that they might infect others. Not everyone can get over this pain and dismay and the death of our colleague is a result of that."
The nurse was homesick since March 10 but she was not put under observation, said her hospital's general manager Mario Alparone to the federation.
The nursing federation said that last week, another nurse killed herself under similar circumstances in Venice.
Italy has been seeing its hospital staff getting overwhelmed. A tenth of Italy's health workers is infected including 33 doctors, as of now.
Earlier, the death toll of Italy has risen upto 7,500 whereas in total 57,521 peple are infected.
