Ex NBR chief urges to make sure the rich pay taxes
Put pressure on the rich to make sure they pay their taxes properly rather going after mid income people, said Former NBR Chairman Dr Muhammad Abdul Mazid after the finance minister proposed the budget for the fiscal year 2020-21.
In an interview with 71 TV, he said, "The government gave an opportunity to turn black money into white money by paying 10 percent tax. It has to be ensured. The rich have to be monitored and the regulatory bodies have to make sure that they pay taxes before going after mid income tax payers."
Regarding the government's aim to collect Tk3,30,000 crore from taxes, the ex NBR chief also said the coronavirus situation is making it hard to collect revenue. The pandemic is slowing down the economy. If all sectors pay their taxes properly then it may help but under such conditions it is not quite possible.
