Mongla Port Authority hosts doa mahfil, discussion to commemorate National Mourning Day
The Mongla Port Authority organised a doa mahfil, and a discussion on the life of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Tuesday to commemorate his 48th martyrdom anniversary and the National Mourning Day.
In the early hours of the morning, the national flag and Mongla Port's flag were hoisted at half-mast at various establishments of the Mongla Port Authority, reads a press release.
At 10am, a discussion seminar and a documentary show were organised in the meeting room of the port authority, with Rear Admiral Mir Ershad Ali, chairman of the Mongla Port Authority, as the chief guest, and Kalachand Singh, acting director (administration) in the chair.
All departmental heads, sub-divisional heads, senior officials, members of the port officers' association and CBA leaders of Mongla Port Authority took part in the discussion.
"The rightful successor of the Father of the Nation - Honourable Prime Minister of Digital Bangladesh is still working tirelessly for the people of the country and for the development of the country despite the great grief of losing his family members on 15 August 1975. No one could love this country like the two daughters of the Father of the Nation," said Rear Admiral Mir Ershad Ali.
He added, "The ideals of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, should be cherished in our hearts and it is our moral responsibility to convey to the next generation the patriotism, sacrifice and ideals of the Father of the Nation."
Later, at 12pm, Rear Admiral Mir Ershad Ali inaugurated a weeklong tree plantation programme by planting a sapling on the premises of Mongla Port Authority's main office.
To mark the day, educational institutions under the port hosted speech, essay and painting competitions based on the life of Bangabandhu, with the participation of the students.
The port authority also distributed food among orphans in various orphanages of Khulna, Mongla and Bagerhat.
After Zuhr prayers, special prayers were offered in the mosques under the port for the salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and all other martyrs of 15 August 1975.
