PHP steps towards green energy with solar power
One of the country's leading industrial groups, PHP Family is introducing a new dimension to the country's solar energy sector by installing solar panels on the roofs of its textile and steel mills to generate its own electricity.
In the initial phase, solar panels with a total capacity of 1,740 kilowatts will be installed in one textile and one steel mill, according to a press release.
These panels are expected to generate about 2,000 megawatts of electricity annually, resulting in a reduction of approximately 1,100 tonnes of carbon emissions.
Shafiqur Rahman Khan, an official of PHP Family, said that they plan to install solar panels on the roofs of their other establishments in the future. This will enable the company to meet a significant portion of its total electricity demand from its own sources.
Meanwhile, Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury, director of the Fuel Research Centre at United International University and a renewable energy expert, has welcomed PHP Family's initiative.
Notably, solar energy is an environmentally friendly energy source. Its use reduces carbon emissions and helps mitigate climate change.
