Amphan weakens into storm, signal lowered at ports
Local cautionary signal 3 advised for all maritime ports
Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) advised maritime ports of Mongla , Payra, Chattogram and Cox's Bazar to hoist local cautionary signal no 3 as super cyclone Amphan has weakened into a cyclonic storm after making landfall.
The cyclone Amphan, after lashing over Satkhira, Khula, Jhenaidah and adjoining areas, now lies over Rajshahi-Pabna region as a land deep depression as of 9am today, said a special weather bulletin of Met office.
It is likely to move in a north-northeasterly direction further and weaken gradually.
The low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Satkhira, Khulna, Bagherhat, Jhalokathi, Pirozpur, Barguna. Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by the surge heights of 4-6 feet and to experience wind speed of 40-50kph with heavy falls today.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice as the sea will remain rough.
So far twelve deaths were reported, many houses were damaged and trees uprooted as severe cyclonic storm Amphan hit the Sundarbans coast of Bangladesh coastlines on Wednesday evening after making a landfall in India's West Bengal.
