Henna designs usually have ornate patterns and motifs. They look intricate, almost like lacework. Although bridal designs are more popular, many women like to put on henna or mehdi for Eid.
Azra Khamissa is a Canadian South African henna artist. She uses her hands like paint canvases and creates minimalist and rather unique henna designs.
They are unlike any designs that we normally see. Instead of drawing traditional flowers and paisleys, she creates simple circles, dots, lines, and curves.

She studied chiropractic in Australia and in an interview given to Allure magazine in 2019, she said, "I definitely use anatomy in my work. Most of my designs are very balanced and symmetrical, just like the body is."
Some people may find her designs to be too different and not really henna like, but many others find it refreshing and contemporary, the interview mentioned.
Scrolling through her social media account, one can see leopard prints, feathers, stars, crescents, and even thin palm trees and lotuses drawn with henna.
In another interview with Vogue Arabia, Azra said that her "henna designs are a complete contrast to what people in the Middle East are used to". She also said that she is passionate about henna and unlike tattoos, she can regularly change the designs and update them.
Going to beauty salons may not be ideal for now, but you can always try to replicate these designs or add your own touch to them and adorn your hands with these them. Making your own henna paste can be a bother, so choose skin-friendly henna cones from the market.
