PM Sheikh Hasina congratulates Rajapaksa on election victory
Sri Lanka’s ruling Sri Lanka People’s Front has won a landslide victory in the country’s August 5 parliamentary elections
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has congratulated her Sri Lankan counterpart, Mahinda Rajapaksa, as his party has won a majority of parliamentary seats.
The ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Party or Sri Lanka People's Front won a landslide victory in the August 5 parliamentary elections.
This victory reflects the confidence of the people of Sri Lanka in the current leadership, Sheikh Hasina wrote in a message.
Recalling the deep ties between the two countries, she said: "Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have been working together for a long time on issues of common interest, including accelerating international communication, countering terrorism-extremism and climate change."
"The presence of a large number of Sri Lankans in Bangladesh is also an example of the excellent bilateral ties that the two countries share," Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina added.
She also referred to her bilateral meetings and exchange of views in international and regional forums with the Sri Lankan prime minister for facilitating issues of common interest.
Sheikh Hasina said, "We will continue to work for peace, harmony and prosperity in South Asia."
Also, she has invited Mahinda Rajapaksa to visit Bangladesh at his convenience, read a press release.
