28 held over Companiganj clash
Upazila administration imposed section 144 in the area earlier today followed by the clashes between supporters of Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and former Upazila Chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal
Twenty-eight people have been detained in connection with Tuesday's factional clash of the ruling Awami League at Basurhat of Noakhali's Companiganj upazila.
Police conducted drives in different areas of the Basurhat Municipality from Tuesday night to early Wednesday and arrested them.
However, the identities of the detainees could not be known yet.
Mir Zahidul Haque Rony, officer-in-charge of Companiganj Police Station, confirmed the matter and said, "Operation to capture those involved in the clashes is going on, while filing a case is underway over the attack on police."
Earlier today, the upazila administration imposed section 144 in the area followed by the clashes between supporters of Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and former Upazila Chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal.
A man was shot dead and more than 50 people were injured in the clash.
