World knows DB can solve any problem, says Harun before leaving DB office
Yesterday, Harun-Or-Rashid was transferred to the post of additional commissioner (Crime and Operations) of the DMP 'in public interest'
Everyone in Bangladesh and around the world knows that the Detective Branch (DB) can solve any problem, outgoing DB chief Additional Commissioner Harun-Or-Rashid said as he left the office today (1 August).
"I have made the DB a place of trust for the common people during my tenure," Harun told media in front of the DB office in Dhaka's Minto Road
"I will try to ensure that people can come to the police stations and receive the services they need. I aim to meet the public's expectations and reinforce that police stations are for the common people," he added.
He further said, "I worked in DB for around three years and three months. You were always by my side. I have tried to take the DB to the threshold of the trust of the common people by following the instructions of the senior officials."
However, the police official avoided answering questions about his transfer and the recent remarks from the high court.
Yesterday, Harun-Or-Rashid was transferred to the post of additional commissioner (Crime and Operations) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) "in public interest".
According to a notification signed by DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, he will be replaced by Md Ashrafuzzaman, additional police commissioner (Logistics, Finance and Procurement) of the DMP.
Harun-Or-Rashid recently became a topic of discussion after the DB detained six coordinators of the quota reform movement, citing "security reasons."
On 28 July, the six coordinators of the quota protests called off all protest programmes of the movement while they were in DB custody.
On the same day, Harun shared multiple photos on Facebook of himself dining with the coordinators at the DB office.
On the following day, the High Court expressed its indignation over the release of a video showing six coordinators of the quota reform movement dining at the Detective Branch office in Dhaka, terming the incident a "mockery" of the nation.
