Facebook access through mobile internet restored after 7 hours, Telegram still inaccessible
The country experienced a nationwide internet blackout from 18 July to 25 July
Social media platform Facebook was inaccessible through mobile network in Bangladesh for nearly seven hours today (2 August) from 12pm to 7pm.
Also, messaging app Telegram has been inaccessible since 12pm. It was still inaccessible as of 9:30pm.
Users have been having trouble using the two apps with some of them initially facing no such issue but later unable to access the apps as well.
Facebook, Messenger and Telegram were made inaccessible through mobile data as per an unofficial regulatory instruction, according to sources at telecom operators.
Sources at Grameenphone said, "Considering the current situation, authorities have restricted the use of some applications through mobile internet. We are in constant communications with the authorities in this regard."
Previously, students had called for a march following Jummah prayer today in protest against the "massacre and mass arrests" and to press for their 9-point demand.
The country experienced a nationwide internet blackout from 18 July to 25 July amid the quota reform protests with mobile network being restored even later on 28 July. Meanwhile, Facebook was fully restored yesterday (1 August).
