Hasina, Quader, Nowfel sued for student and teacher murder in Ctg, Bogura
Two new murder cases have been filed against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and more than 100 Awami League leaders and activists, in connection with the killing of a teacher and a student during the recent student movement in Chattogram and Bogura.
One case was filed by Mohammad Parvez, whose 19-year-old nephew, Tanvir Siddiqui, was killed during the student protests in Chattogram's Bahaddarhat area.
The case was filed at Chandgaon police station on Friday night, naming 34 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, along with 32 other Awami League leaders and activists, and 40-50 unidentified others.
Zahidul Kabir, officer-in-charge of the police station, confirmed the matter to the media.
As per the case statement, Tanvir, an HSC examinee at Ashekan Awlia Degree College, participated in a peaceful "shutdown" protest organised by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on 18 July in front of Bahaddarhat Kacha Bazar.
Around 4:20pm, students were allegedly attacked by individuals armed with machetes, stones, and firearms, reportedly under the orders of Sheikh Hasina and Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury. Tanvir was severely injured by gunfire and later succumbed to his injuries at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, another murder case has been filed against Sheikh Hasina and 101 others, including Awami League General Secretary and former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, in connection with the killing of a teacher during the student movement in Bogura.
The case was filed by Sikander Ali, father of the victim Selim Hossain, 40, at Bogura sadar police station on Thursday night.
OC Saihan Oliullah said Hasina and Quader were named as instigators in the case.
Selim, a teacher at LightHouse School of Learning and Diversity in Murail, Kahaloo, and a resident of Palikanda village in Shibganj upazila, was killed on 4 August.
The case alleges that Awami League members, including former MPs Mujibur Rahman and Ragebul Ahsan, led an attack on protesters with petrol bombs and cocktails in Bogura's Satmatha area. Councillors Abdul Matin Sarkar, Aminul Islam, and Arifur Rahman allegedly inflicted fatal injuries on Selim.
These cases mark the sixth charges filed against Sheikh Hasina since her ouster, with previous accusations including murder, crimes against humanity, and abduction.
