Two murder cases filed against Hasina, ex-IGP over deaths of Abu Sayeed, journo in Rangpur
Another murder case was filed against additional commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police and 20 others over the killing of a fruit seller.
A case has been filed against ex-inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and 16 others over the death of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayeed during quota reform movement in Rangpur.
Ramjan Ali, elder brother of Abu Sayeed, requested the Tajhat Metropolitan Magistrate Court to accept the case at 11am today (18 August).
Former IGP Mamun, along with Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Rangpur Abdul baten, Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Moniruzzaman and 14 others, have been accused in the case, while 150 others have been kept unnamed.
After requesting the court, plaintiff Ramjan Ali said, "The process of filing the case got delayed due to unavoidable circumstances. We want justice for my brother."
Lawyer of the plaintiff Rayhanuzzaman said, "We've accused 17 persons while kept 150 others unnamed. The court has asked Tajhat Police Station to accept the case."
Meanwhile, another murder case has been filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 40 others for killing photojournalist Abdullah Abu Tahir during the violence that followed the quota protests.
Top leaders of Awami League including its general secretary Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former law minister Anisul Huq, former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud, and former textiles and jute minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak were also accused in the case.
Abdur Rahman, father of Abu Tahir, filed the case with Rangpur Metropolitan Judicial Magistrate Court on Sunday.
Panel Lawyer of the case Tarekuzzaman said, "Tahir was shot upon orders from former prime minister Sheikh Hasina. That's why we had requested the court for filing a case naming her and 40 other people, including Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader."
"The court has accepted our plea and asked the Kotwali Police Station to accept the charge sheet," he added.
Meanwhile, a murder case was filed with Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Rangpur against 21 people over the killing of fruit seller Merajul Islam Meraj.
Additional Commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Utpal Kumar Roy, Assistant Commissioner Imran Hossain are among the accused in this case.
On 19 July, Meraj was shot dead during quota reform protests in front of Rangpur City Market.
