No scope to restore democratic system without polls: Amir Khasru
There is no scope to restore democratic system in the country without elections, BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said today (19 August).
"Different issues relating to democracy, economy, politics and where future Bangladesh is going," he told journalists following a meeting with European Union (EU) acting Ambassador to Bangladesh Bernd Spanier at BNP Chairperson's Gulshan political office.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Organizing Secretary and International Affairs Committee Member Shama Obaid were present in the meeting.
Discussion was also held about how the current crisis can be overcome and in which areas EU's support is needed, Khasru said.
Talks were held about what will be remedies for the state institutions which were destroyed during the Awami regime and how these institutions can be brought to the right track, said the BNP standing committee member.
Ami Khasru said EU's support in these issues and how the EU will continue its support to Bangladesh export business in the EU were discussed.
How the framework of EU with Bangladesh can be reformed for the economic development of the country and how Bangladesh economy can make a turnaround rapidly were also discussed, he added.
Replying to a question whether they will seek investigation into the financial scam in Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, he said they definitely demand a probe into the incident.
Not only on the Rooppur power plant but also on how the laundered $100 billion can be brought back to Bangladesh was discussed, he said.
