Highest efforts being made to safe lives in flood-hit areas: Azam
Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Farooq-e Azam said his government is mobilising best efforts to protect the lives of the people in the flood affected areas.
"We're engaging in all our efforts to save the lives of the masses," he said in a press conference in the ministry's conference room at the Secretariat here.
The adviser said they have been trying their best to make contact with the flood affected people as part of the efforts to save lives of the commoners.
He said that the interim government is mobilizing the best efforts to protect the lives of the people engaging army, navy, coast guard and other voluntary organisations in Feni and Noakhali that were badly affected in the on-going flash flood.
"We have taken the best preparation to provide food and cash as relief. We will take a rehabilitation programme soon after the flood water starts receding," he assured.
In reply to a question whether they had any forecast about the ongoing flood, Azam said, "No, we don't know about it. It is a flash flood.
Responding to another question about opening embankments by India, he said that communication is being made to know the matter.
"I am not confirming that. But, I have heard that the embankment was opened on that side. I don't know the details officially," he added.
