Jamal Bhuiyan without a club as BPL transfer window shuts
It is yet to be determined whether Jamal was not approached with any offers or if he chose to turn them down while being abroad.
As the transfer window for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) closed last night, Bangladesh national football team captain Jamal Bhuiyan finds himself without a club for the upcoming season.
The 34-year-old midfielder was not signed by any team during the transfer period, leaving his participation in the forthcoming campaign in doubt.
Last season, Jamal made a mid-season switch to Abahani in the second phase of the BPL after parting ways with Argentine third-division side Sol de Mayo.
Jamal, who was born in Denmark, made his debut for the Bangladesh national team in 2013 and soon after joined Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, where he played for two seasons.
Following that, he spent a season with Sheikh Russel KC before a long stint at Saif Sporting Club, which has since disbanded. His career then saw him playing for Kolkata's Mohammedan SC and Chittagong Abahani, before he returned to Sheikh Russel KC. However, both Sheikh Russel KC and Sheikh Jamal DC have pulled out of this year's BPL due to the prevailing circumstances in Bangladesh.
In a related development, Nigerian-Bangladeshi forward Eleta Kingsley has signed with Brothers Union after missing out on the previous season.
With the withdrawal of three-time BPL champions Sheikh Jamal DC and treble-winners Sheikh Russel KC, this season's BPL will proceed with just 10 teams. The new season is scheduled to begin in early October, starting with the Challenge Cup match between reigning champions Bashundhara Kings and runners-up Mohammedan SC.
