Election timing a political matter, countrymen to decide when they want us to leave: Dr Yunus
The chief adviser noted that they will also reform the Election Commission as part of the broader reforms.
The interim government would remain in power for as long as the people of Bangladesh desire, Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus said in a national address today (25 August).
Dr Yunus also clarified that election timing is a political decision.
"Everyone is eager to know when the interim government will step down. The decision lies solely in your [people's] hands. When will you release us from our duties? We are not meant to govern the country. Our true passions lie in our respective professions," he said addressing the nation this evening.
The chief adviser noted that they will also reform the Election Commission as part of the broader reforms.
"We will ensure that the commission is prepared for an ideal election at any time," he added.
Dr Yunus stated that he is committed to transforming Bangladesh into a liberal democratic, equitable, and secular state by reforming government institutions and amending existing laws.
