Flood victims will be rehabilitated, but it will take time: Home affairs adviser
"This is a humane Bangladesh. In times of disaster, the entire nation has come together, which will remain a remarkable example," he said after visiting flood-affected areas at Sonar Bangla College ground in Burichang, Cumilla.
Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today (26 August) assured that flood-affected people will be rehabilitated but noted that the process will require time and cannot be rushed.
"This is a humane Bangladesh. In times of disaster, the entire nation has come together, which will remain a remarkable example," he said after visiting flood-affected areas at Sonar Bangla College ground in Burichang, Cumilla.
Anticipating the post-flood agricultural challenges, Jahangir Alam highlighted the widespread damage to crops, including submerged fields, destroyed vegetables, and ruined paddy seedbeds.
However, he remained optimistic, saying, "We will have fertile soil after the flood, and we are preparing accordingly. We are creating alternative paddy seedbeds and producing vegetable seedlings. With a collective effort, we will recover."
The adviser also observed a slight improvement in the flood situation after visiting several areas.
He mentioned the challenges faced in reaching remote areas and highlighted the ongoing rescue efforts by the police, RAB, BGB, Coast Guard, Ansar, and Air Force, coordinated by the army.
He urged rescuers to exercise caution, saying, "Do not endanger your own lives while trying to save others."
