Criminals should be tried, not forgiven: Rizvi
"They [Jamaat] say they have forgiven Awami League. What are they forgiving the genocidals for?” he says
Forgiving the killers of those who were shot dead on the orders of Sheikh Hasina during the recent protests would be unfair to the victims, BNP Senior Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said today (4 September).
"Every murder and every crime [in recent violence] should be tried by tribunals. If criminals, including Sheikh Hasina, are not tried, then Bangladesh will end up as a graveyard," he said after handing over a donation to the father of a Golam Rabbani, who was killed in the protests on behalf of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman near the PG Hospital in Shahbagh.
Referring to Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's statement that the party does not believe in revenge politics and has forgiven those who persecuted them politically, Rizvi said, "They say they have forgiven Awami League. What are they forgiving the genocidals for?"
Addressing BNP leaders and activists, Rizvi said, "None of you will take the law into your hands. Let the law and order forces do their work. The acting chairman of the party has already given a strong message in this regard."
