Prof Kamrul Ahsan appointed JU VC

Prof Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University.
President Md Shahabuddin, also the chancellor of the university, appointed him to the post today (5 September).
The education ministry issued a notification on Thursday in this regard.
According to the notification, Prof Ahsan has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of the university in accordance with the Jahangirnagar University Act, 1973 section 11(2) 'for the time being'.
The notification also specified five conditions for his appointment, including that his tenure as vice-chancellor will begin from the date he assumes the role.
As the university's chief executive officer, he is required to reside on the university campus full-time. Additionally, the president and chancellor reserve the right to revoke his appointment at any time if deemed necessary.
He will receive the same salary as in his current position, along with other benefits associated with the vice-chancellor post, as per the regulations, the notification reads.
Prof Kamrul Ahsan completed both his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Philosophy from JU. He has completed his second master's from Sofia University, Bulgaria and PhD degree from Cardiff University, UK.
Prof Kamrul Ahsan is the president of the Nationalist Teachers' Forum, a BNP-backed teacher organisation, at the university. He is also a registered graduate senate member of the university.
Dr Ahsan joined the university as a lecturer in 1993 and was promoted to professor in 2013.
