Acer unveils a concept laptop with a pop-out controller
Acer has introduced Project DualPlay, a new concept laptop designed to enhance mobile gaming.
The standout feature of this device is its built-in gaming controller, neatly stored under the keyboard. When not in use, the controller is secured by electromagnets. Pressing a button above the keyboard releases the controller, along with two 5W speakers that pop out from the sides.
The controller's back also functions as the laptop's trackpad. Once detached, it can be split into two separate gamepads, similar to the design of the Nintendo Switch. This allows a second player to easily join in for multiplayer games.
Acer has highlighted games like Street Fighter 6 and other first-person shooting games, though the concept appears best suited for games that support split-screen play.
According to The Verge, Acer's Project DualPlay was not physically displayed at the IFA event in Berlin, raising questions about its usability, particularly how comfortable it would be to operate without the trackpad when the controller is removed. Despite these concerns, Project DualPlay introduces a new level of convenience for gamers who prefer controllers over traditional mouse-and-keyboard setups.
For now, Project DualPlay remains a concept, with Acer yet to release any pricing details. The idea of having a controller built right into the laptop could appeal to gamers on the go.
