Rizvi meets Shafik Rehman, asks him to return to journalism
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has urged veteran journalist Shafik Rehman to return to journalism.
"Shafik Rehman was forced to leave this country by dictator Sheikh Hasina due to his writing. As the dictatorship has fallen, I want Shafiq Rehman to pick up his pen again," Rizvi told Shafik during a courtesy visit to his residence in Dhaka today (6 September).
BNP chairperson's Adviser Khalid Hasan Chowdhury, Dhaka University Professor Saiful Islam, Swechasebak Dal central leader Arifur Rahman Tushar and Chhatra Dal Vice President Tauhidur Rahman Awal were also present on the occasion.
On 18 August, Shafik Rehman returned to Bangladesh after six years in the United Kingdom.
On 17 August 2023, Shafik Rehman, along with Mahmudur Rahman, the acting editor of the daily Amar Desh, and three others, was sentenced to seven years in prison in a case involving a conspiracy to abduct and murder Sajeeb Wazed Joy.
Shafik Rehman was arrested on 16 April 2016 in connection with this case. Later, he was released on bail.
