A BNP leader in Gazipur was killed today (6 September) in an attack by a group of unidentified men in a procession organised by the local BNP unit marking one month of the ouster of the Awami League-led government.
Around a dozen BNP activists were also injured in the attack near the Nasu Market area of Muktarpur in Kaliganj upazila this morning, BNP leaders and police said.
The deceased has been identified as Enamul Huq Aklu, said Additional Superintendent of Gazipur Police (Kaliganj Circle) Md Asaduzzaman.
"It was initially reported that the killing happened during a procession in the Nasu market area. A case is being filed in this incident. No one has been arrested so far," he added.
The body of the deceased has been sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
Enamul, son of the late Habibur Rahman of Ramchandra area, was the president of Muktarpur Ward-6 unit of BNP, said Muktarpur BNP unit President Fazlul Haque Noyon.
