Police recover 3,933 looted weapons in two days

At least 3,933 weapons that were looted since the fall of the Awami League government on 5 August have been recovered by police.

Among the looted weapons were 1,135 Chinese rifles, 251 SMGs and 2,191 shotguns, among which 839 rifles, 191 SMGs and 1,624 shotguns have been recovered.
As per the report, around 6,00,000 bullets, 32,005 teargas shells and 4,692 sound grenades were looted besides weapons, a large part of which is yet to be recovered.
Earlier, the government decided to conduct a joint operation, comprising the police, army, BGB and other forces, across the country from Wednesday (4 September) to recover illegal weapons.
Earlier on 25 August, the home ministry revoked all firearms licences issued to civilians between 6 January 2009 and 5 August 2024 during the Awami League government.
