We don't want to witness any more border killings as Felani's: Home adviser
The Border Guard Bangladesh [BGB] should carry out their duties with professionalism, he says
Border killing incidents must not happen again, such as Bangladeshi girl Felani's, who was shot to death by the BSF in Kurigram in 2011, Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said today (7 September).
"We don't want to see another incident like Felani being killed at the border…the Border Guard Bangladesh [BGB] should carry out their duties with professionalism," the adviser said at a briefing in the Border Conference Center of BGB Headquarters in Pilkhana.
"Don't turn your backs on the border; fulfil your responsibilities diligently," he said, addressing the senior BGB members.
He highlighted that the primary responsibility of the BGB is to ensure border security and prevent smuggling.
The adviser further issued strict instructions to the BGB to refrain from corruption.
He also warned against any involvement in bribery and corruption. "These will not be tolerated, and those found guilty will face strict punitive actions, including termination from their jobs if necessary.
"The BGB must adhere to the law in all their operations," he added.
