AL leader, brother arrested in Sylhet while fleeing to India
During the arrest, two Bangladeshi passports, Rs14,200, Tk4,000, three mobile phones, and their national ID cards were seized from Kamal and Sadek
Kamal Ahmed, the president of Sylhet's Jaintiapur upazila Awami League (AL) and his younger brother Sadek Ahmed were arrested by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) while attempting to flee to India via the Jaintiapur border in Sylhet.
They were detained around 8:30pm last night (7 September) from the Goabari border area of the upazila and later handed over to the police the same night.
"There is a case against Kamal Ahmed and Sadek Ahmed for their alleged involvement in an incident of violence on 4 August. They were arrested in this case and are scheduled to be presented in court today (8 September)," said Tajul Islam, the officer-in-charge of Jaintiapur police station.
Meanwhile, sources at BGB said Kamal and Sadek tried to flee, realising the presence of the BGB. But they were pursued and apprehended by the patrol team.
