Who are the heads of the six reform commissions?
The heads of each commission will determine the members of their respective teams
Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus today (11 September) named the heads of six commissions to be formed for the reformation of the constitution, electoral system, the judiciary, the police, 'anti-corruption', and public administration.
Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, secretary of Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan), will chair the Electoral System Reform Commission.
Majumdar is an economist, development worker, political analyst, local government and election expert. He is the vice president and country director of the US-based charity The Hunger Project.
Safar Raz Hossain, a former secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, will lead the Police Administration Reform Commission.
Justice Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman will head the Judiciary Reform Commission. He was appointed as an Appellate Division judge in July 2009. However, he resigned in May 2011 in protest after being passed over twice for promotion to Chief Justice.
Dr Iftekharuzzaman, executive director of Transparency International Bangladesh, will lead the Anti-Corruption Reform Commission.
In recognition of his leadership in advocating against corruption and promoting transparency and good governance, Iftekharuzzaman was awarded the first Global Partnership for Social Accountability (GPSA) Award in May 2015. This award acknowledged his role in catalysing institutional, legal, and policy reforms at the national level and promoting participatory social accountability at the institutional level, engaging volunteers, particularly youth, in Bangladesh.
Abdul Mueed Chowdhury, the newly appointed chairman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, will head the Public Administration Reform Commission.
Chowdhury, a former adviser to the Latifur Rahman caretaker government, served as secretary in a number of ministries from 1994 to 2000.
Eminent jurist Dr Shahdeen Malik will oversee the Constitution Reform Commission.
Dr Malik is a lawyer of the Supreme Court and also a member of CPD Board of Trustees. Over the years, he worked as consultant for a number of UN agencies and other bilateral and multilateral development partners.
