Ex-DMP chief Asaduzzaman Mia arrested
He has been taken to Khilgaon Police Station following his arrest
The members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia from the capital's Mohakhali tonight (11 September).
Confirming the arrest, RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Lt Col Muneem Ferdous told TBS that Asaduzzaman has been taken to Khilgaon Police Station.
He was later shown arrested in a case filed over killing of former Chhatra Dal leader Nuruzzaman Joni in the name of "crossfire" in police custody in 2015.
Joni's father Yakub Ali filed the case with Khilgaon Police Station against 13 police officers including the then DMP commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia on Tuesday (3 September).
Asaduzzaman Mia served as DMP commissioner from 7 January 2015 until his retirement on 13 August 2019. He was then appointed on a contractual basis as commissioner of DMP for one month, from 14 August to 13 September 2019.
Subsequently, on 14 September 2019, he was appointed as the chief executive officer of the newly formed National Security Cell under the Cabinet Division. His contract with the National Security Cell expired in September 2022.
Asaduzzaman has been in the spotlight in recent months due to allegations of corruption and amassing wealth illegally.
Several media reports claimed that Asaduzzaman Mia and his family own several plots, apartments, lands and companies in Dhaka.
