Case filed against 83 including Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana in Ctg court
A case has been filed against 83 people including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana on charges of instigating attacks on a protest rally in Rahattarpool area of Chattogram.
The case was filed on Thursday (12 September) by Mustafa Zaman, who is reportedly involved in the politics of Sramik Dal. The Chattogram Second Metropolitan Magistrate Aliullah's court has instructed Bakalia police station to investigate the matter and treat it as a complaint.
Other prominent figures named in the case include Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former Education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, former Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, former member of Parliament Salman F Rahman, and former Jamal Khan Ward councilor Shaibal Dash Sumon.
The plaintiff's lawyer, Bakhteyar Uddin, confirmed that the case was filed against 83 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana, with an additional 300 to 400 unknown individuals listed as accused. The court has ordered an official investigation into the matter by the Bakalia police.
According to the complaint, the incident in question occurred on 2 August, following Friday prayers, when Mustafa Zaman and his daughter were participating in an anti-discrimination movement in the Rahattarpool area of Bakalia. The procession was allegedly attacked by 300 to 400 activists from the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League, who were armed with indigenous weapons, iron rods, and batons. The attack is said to have been carried out under the direction of the accused, resulting in severe injuries to several individuals, including Zaman's daughter.
Zaman further alleges that five people, including his daughter, were detained by Awami League members, who demanded a ransom of Tk1 lakh from their families. They were reportedly threatened with death and disappearance if the ransom was not paid. The detainees were released after a ransom of Tk50,000 was paid for each person.
