A 16-year-old boy died of dengue while receiving treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) today (12 September), marking the fifth dengue-related death this month.
According to a report from the District Civil Surgeon Office, the deceased Wahidur Rahman from Bandarban was admitted today and succumbed to complications from dengue.
In the past 24 hours, 34 new dengue cases were reported in various hospitals, with 764 total infections in Chattogram this year.
Dengue continues to surge, with 166 hospital admissions in just the first 12 days of September.
So far, 10 people, including two men, six women, and two children, have died from dengue in 2024 in the port city.
Dengue infections have significantly increased in Chittagong over the past few years. In 2021, 271 people were infected, rising to 5,445 in 2022, and reaching 14,087 in 2023. Death tolls have also surged, with five deaths in 2021, 41 in 2022, and 107 in 2023.
Authorities have urged people to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to combat the outbreak.
