875 individuals killed during mass uprising, 599 shot dead: Human rights society
17% of the deceased were under 18 years old
The Human Rights Support Society (HRSS) has claimed to have documented the deaths of 875 individuals across Bangladesh during the student-led uprising.
Out of these, the identities of 743 individuals have been confirmed, while 132 remain unidentified.
The right group today revealed a report based on information collected from victims' families, eyewitnesses, hospitals, and national dailies, covering the period from 19 July to 9 September.
According to the report, 107 (17%) of the deceased were children under 18 years old, 327 (53%) were young adults, 158 (26%) were middle-aged, and 27 (4%) were elderly.
The HRSS further claimed to have determined the causes of death for 772 victims. Among them, 599 were shot dead, 61 died from burns, 85 were beaten to death, and 27 succumbed to other causes.
The report also provided information about the professions of 352 of the deceased, which included 184 students, 70 labourers, 51 members of law enforcement, 5 journalists, and 41 individuals from various other professions.
In terms of geographical distribution, the report noted that the majority of deaths occurred in the Dhaka division (540), followed by Chattogram (91), Khulna (81), Rajshahi (64), Mymensingh (38), Rangpur (29), Sylhet (20), and Barishal (13).
