Bangladesh team receives multi-crore bonus after defeating Pakistan
The Bangladesh team is heading to India to play two Tests and three T20Is, with Shanto and Miraz's squad departing tomorrow at 1:05 PM, after receiving their winning bonuses at a ceremony held at Sonargaon Hotel in the capital the previous day.
Bangladesh went to Pakistan with an uncomfortable record in Tests, having lost 12 of their previous 13 matches, with one draw.
However, this time, the team made history by winning the series 2-0 on Pakistan soil. Bangladesh clinched the first Test with a dominant 10-wicket victory and won the second by 6 wickets.
In recognition of this historic series win, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) awarded the team a substantial bonus of 3.2 crore taka.
Bangladesh is now heading to India to play two Tests and three T20Is. The team, led by Shanto and Miraz, will depart at 1:05 PM tomorrow. A ceremony was held at the Sonargaon Hotel in the capital, where the players were presented with their winning bonuses. Asif Ahmed Sajib Bhuiyan, the sports advisor, was present as the chief guest and handed over the bonuses to the players. The event was also attended by BCB President Faruque Ahmed, alongside the players and coaching staff.
Speaking about the bonus distribution and the event, BCB President Faruque said, "Today, the cricket board organised this event. We invited the sports advisor, who met with the team after the Pakistan tour, where the chief advisor was also present. Today, he wanted to meet the team again ahead of their important tour to India, so we arranged this event."
Faruque also mentioned that a portion of the bonus would be donated by the players to flood victims. "We must keep in mind that we are facing many challenges right now. We just experienced floods, and there are around 20,000 struggling students. We express our solidarity with them. The captain has said that the players will donate part of their bonus," he added.
While the bonus for winning a historic Test series against Pakistan might seem special, it is actually part of a long-standing tradition. Players and coaching staff receive different bonus amounts for winning Tests, ODIs, and T20s, depending on the opposition's ranking. Test match victories earn the highest bonuses, with additional bonuses for winning a series.
In June, the bonus amounts were increased. For defeating teams ranked between 1 and 6 in Tests, each player in the 15-member squad receives a bonus of 4 lakh taka per Test win, with an additional 4 lakh for winning the series. Therefore, each player was supposed to receive 8 lakh for winning the two Tests and an extra 4 lakh for the series victory, totalling 12 lakh taka.
However, the bonus amount was doubled this time after the 10-wicket win in the first Test. For that victory alone, the players were supposed to receive 8 lakh taka each, bringing the total to 16 lakh per player. There were 16 players in the squad for this series, and the 2.4 crore taka for match and series victories will be divided among them, with each player receiving 15 lakh taka.
In addition, there is an extra special bonus of 80 lakh taka, which will be shared among the entire team. In total, the players will receive 3.2 crore taka, with each of the 16 players getting 20 lakh taka. The coaching staff will also receive winning bonuses, though their amounts will be lower than the players'. They will receive their bonuses in accordance with their contracts with BCB.
