The case alleges harassment and death threats for refusing to approve loans for Salman F Rahman
Formanul Islam, CEO of state-owned Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited (BIFFL), has filed a criminal case against Abdur Rouf Talukder, former governor of Bangladesh Bank; Salman F Rahman, former adviser to prime minister Sheikh Hasina; former NBR chairman Abu Hena Rahmatul Muneem; and nine others.
The case was lodged with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court-7 today (15 September) over allegations of harassment and death threats for refusing to approve loans for Salman F Rahman.
The court ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the matter.
According to the case, on 8 July 2019, Abdur Rouf Talukder, then finance secretary and chairman of BIFFL, summoned Formanul to his office and pressured him to approve loans for Salman.
When Formanul declined, he was threatened with removal from his position at BIFFL.
On 28 July, he was forced to leave the organisation.
Formanul had filed a general diary with the Gulshan Police Station, but the matter was never investigated due to the political influence of the accused.
