Home affairs adviser orders crackdown on drug godfathers
He also pointed out the need for the DNC officials to be equipped with weapons for successful operations
Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has directed the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) to intensify efforts to catch drug godfathers and bring them to justice.
"Don't just go after the carriers; you must catch the big drug godfathers involved in the illegal drug trade," Lt Gen Chowdhury said during a meeting with senior officials of the DNC at Segunbagicha in the capital today (17 September).
He further instructed the DNC to strengthen their ongoing joint operations and provide daily progress reports.
"The success of these operations will determine the department's performance evaluation," he added.
The adviser warned that the government's success hinges on curbing corruption, urging DNC officials and staff to stay away from bribes and illicit practices.
"Drugs destroy future generations and bring catastrophic consequences to families, society, and the state. Therefore, we must work sincerely and wholeheartedly to eradicate drugs," he said.
He also pointed out the need for the DNC officials to be equipped with weapons for successful operations.
"The DNC has uniforms, but no arms. To conduct effective raids, they need to be armed, and steps will be taken in this regard," the Adviser mentioned, adding that police support should be enlisted for operations where there is a risk of attacks.
