Prioritise daylight exposure in building design: Rizwana
She also highlighted the impact of consumerism on quality of life, climate change, and environmental degradation
Adviser to the ministries of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Water Resources Syeda Rizwana Hasan today (17 September) emphasised that natural light should be a top priority in the design of new buildings.
"In the future, buildings must be designed to facilitate natural light," she said during a seminar held at the Department of Environment, marking World Ozone Day.
At the event, she said, "Look at how many lights are on at 12:30 in the afternoon. This highlights a flaw in our planning. Buildings should be designed to maximise natural light, reducing or eliminating the need for artificial lighting during the day. I have informed the ministry, urging them to prioritise better design practices to avoid such inefficiencies in the future. Additionally, we must stop using clay-burnt bricks."
She also highlighted the impact of consumerism on quality of life, climate change, and environmental degradation.
Rizwana pointed out that both obesity and climate change pose serious threats to humanity.
"We fail to consider the consequences of our actions. We overlook harmful trends, mistaking them for progress," she added.
She further noted that the developed world has never delivered on the financial commitments it promised to address climate change.
