1009 cartons of looted RMG export goods recovered from Ctg, 3 arrested

Police recovered 1009 cartons of looted readymade garment (RMG) export goods from a warehouse in the Hamzarbag area under Panchlaish Police Station, Chittagong, on Tuesday evening. They also arrested three individuals involved in the theft, which occurred while the goods were being transported from Dhaka to KDS Logistics in Sitakunda, Chittagong.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Mosharraf (24), son of the late Jamal Uddin from Feni; Mohammad Azad (36), son of Abu Taher from Senbag upazila in Noakhali; and Mohammad Gani (29), son of Faruk Hasan from Fatikchhari upazila in Chittagong.

Confirming the recovery and arrests, Mohammad Solaiman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchlaish Police Station, told The Business Standard that a covered van loaded with 1009 cartons of RMG export goods, 10090 pieces of T-shirts, left Tropicle Nitex Ltd in Gazipur for KDS Logistics, an inland container depot, in Sitakunda on September 14.

"Riyad Miah, the driver of the covered van, looted all the goods en route and went into hiding after parking the empty van at the KDS Logistics parking lot," he added.

"A man named Harun contacted the transport owner and informed him that the goods would be returned if a ransom of Tk 1.8 lakh was paid. Upon receiving this information from transport association leaders, the police launched an immediate operation and recovered the looted goods from two covered vans in the Hamzarbag area," OC Solaiman explained.

He further stated that the police arrested three suspects involved in the looting and seized the covered vans carrying the looted goods.  

Police are continuing their operation to apprehend all the culprits. A case has been filed, and investigations are ongoing.
