Ali Riaz, not Shahdeen Malik, to lead reform commission on Constitution

The government has appointed eminent political analyst Ali Riaz as the head of the Constitution Reform Commission announced by Chief Adviser Prof Yunus last week.
The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification in this regard today (18 September).

Ali Riaz has been appointed as the head of the commission in his place, it added.
The change in head of the commission has been made as Shahdeen Malik refused to lead the commission due to being busy with his professional work, Prothom Alo reports, citing Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul.
Ali Riaz is currently working as a distinguished professor at Illinois State University where he joined in 2002.
He is also the president of the American Institute of Bangladesh Studies (AIBS) and a senior non-resident fellow of the Atlantic Council.
In his 11 September address, Yunus announced the formation of six commissions for the reformation of the Constitution, electoral system, the judiciary, the police, 'anti-corruption', and public administration.
