July uprising: Families of each martyrs to get Tk5 lakh, injured persons up to Tk1 lakh
The compensation for the injured persons will be made as soon as possible, while cheques for the families of the martyrs will be handed over at a commemorative event in the capital
The July Shaheed Smriti Foundation's executive committee has announced compensation plans for families of martyrs and injured individuals from the July-August mass uprising. Each family of the martyrs will receive Tk5 lakh, and each injured person will receive up to Tk1 lakh.
This announcement was made in a press release from the Chief Adviser's Office following the inaugural meeting of the executive committee, which was held today (18 September) at the State Guest House Jamuna and chaired by Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus.
Compensation for the injured will be distributed as soon as possible, while cheques for the martyrs' families will be handed out at a commemorative event in the capital.
The committee, led by Prof Yunus, is calling on everyone, including the Bangladeshi diaspora, organisations, and businesses, to contribute to the foundation.
They are also working to secure office space and recruit volunteers to help manage the Foundation's operations. Additionally, they plan to preserve and archive videos, images, oral histories, and other materials related to the uprising.
Prof Yunus stressed the importance of documenting all donations, no matter how small. He suggested that the names of donors be published on the Foundation's website. "This Foundation is an important milestone. We must strive hard to make it a success," he said.
The Chief Adviser also noted that the health ministry will cover the medical expenses for the injured, and the Foundation's compensation will be in addition to these government-funded treatments.
The meeting was attended by Interim Government Advisers Sharmeen Murshid, Nahid Islam, and Asif Mahmud, as well as the Foundation's General Secretary Mir Mahbubur Rahman Singdho and Treasurer Kazi Waqar Ahmad.
