2 Rajshahi AL leaders sent to jail
A Rajshahi court today (21 September) sent district Awami League member Rahenul Haque Raihan and upazila Awami League president Abdus Salam to jail over explosion, sabotage and attacks during the July-August violence in the district.
Rahenul, also former MP of Rajshahi-6 constituency, was arrested from Charghat Bazar around 11am today (21 September) and later, the court sent him to jail, Charghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Afzal Hossain told The Business Standard.
"A case was filed against him on 1 September with the police station in connection with explosion and sabotage incidents on 6 August in Rajshahi.
"During the investigation, evidence of Rahenul's involvement was found in the case," the OC added.
Additionally, Abdus Salam, also former chairman of Mohanpur Upazila Parishad, was arrested from Rajshahi on Friday night, Mohanpur Police Station OC Abdul Hannan confirmed the matter.
"Abdus is named in four cases, including one involving an attack on Mohanpur Police Station and other offences. He had been in hiding since 5 August," the OC said.
He added that the court sent him to jail today.
