Army officer stabbed to death by robbers in Cox's Bazar

An officer of the Bangladesh Army was stabbed to death during a raid to recover illegal firearms in Cox's Bazar's Chakaria upazila today (24 September).
The incident occurred around 3:30am during a joint overnight operation led by the army in the Maizpara area of Dulahazara Union.
While conducting the operation in Maizpara village, a group of 7-8 armed robbers, upon noticing the presence of the army patrol team, attempted to flee.
Lieutenant Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar, 23, who led the operation, chased some of the robbers. During the chase, the robbers attacked Lieutenant, stabbing him in the neck, resulting in severe injuries and heavy bleeding, reads a statement of the Bangladesh Army published today.
He was immediately taken to Malumghat Memorial Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
This talented young officer had completed his higher secondary education at Pabna Cadet College. He was commissioned into the Army Service Corps (ASC) on 8 June 2022, as part of the 82nd Long Course from the Bangladesh Military Academy.
Meanwhile, Chakaria police station officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Monjur Quader Bhuiyan said, "The robbers, sensing the presence of law enforcement, tried to flee the scene. During the chase, six of the robbers were caught. The team recovered a pickup truck, a motorcycle, and a firearm from the robbers," he added.
"During the raid, one of the armed robbers fired at Lt Tanzim, hitting him on the forehead and injuring him further with a knife. He was immediately taken to CMH Ramu for medical treatment, where he later passed away."
The body of the deceased officer was taken to Cox's Bazar General Hospital morgue for autopsy around 10:30am.
Three suspects arrested
Following the incident, the joint forces managed to arrest three suspects. "Three suspects have been arrested during the operation, and interrogation is ongoing," confirmed Additional Superintendent of Police MM Rakibul Raja of Chakaria Circle. Further investigations are underway to apprehend the rest of the culprits involved in the attack, reports UNB.
The military and law enforcement agencies have offered condolences for the loss of Lieutenant Tanjim and vowed to continue their operations to secure the area.
