6 Bangladeshi victims of human trafficking rescued in Nepal
Nepal's immigration department today (24 September) rescued six Bangladeshi victims of human trafficking from a hotel in Kathmandu.
The rescuees are Tuhinur Islam Anik, Shakib Ahmed, Md Rahim Khandkar, Rian, Dulal Munshi and Samrat, according to BRAC which was involved in the rescue.
Shariful Hasan, associate director (Migration and Youth Platform) of BRAC said, "On 21 September, the family members of the six victims contacted the BRAC Migration Welfare Center and said travel agencies charged them Tk7.5 lakh to send the Bangladeshis to Albania via Nepal. But the Albanian visa was fake. The victims were held by traffickers in a hotel in Nepal."
Shariful continued, "Al Amin Nayan, manager of BRAC Migration Welfare Center, who received the TIP Hero honour of the US State Department this year for his anti-trafficking work, reported the incident of trafficking to TIP Hero Network. The matter was also informed to USAID Nepal.
"This morning, Nepal's immigration department rescued the victims from the hotel and detained a broker named Disan."
The documents from the rescued Bangladeshis show that they were sent to Nepal by Bangladeshi travel agencies Admire and Khan Travel International, Shariful added.
