BSEC to hold stakeholders meeting on 30 September
The organisations have been requested to allow two of their representatives to attend the meeting and submit their written opinions regarding the reform of the capital market
The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) will hold a meeting with stakeholders on 30 September at 11am in its multipurpose hall located in the capital's Agargaon area.
According to the invitation letter issued on Wednesday, the meeting, to be chaired by the new BSEC Chairman Khondoker Rashed Maqsood, will feature a session for exchanging views with representatives of the two stock exchanges, Central Depository Bangladesh Limited, Central Counterparty Bangladesh Limited, Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market, Bangladesh Academy for Securities Market, and the Capital Market Stabilisation Fund.
The organisations have been requested to allow two of their representatives to attend the meeting and submit their written opinions regarding the reform of the capital market.
Other top BSEC officials, including the new commissioners, will also join the meeting.
A senior BSEC official noted that there has been a serious dent in the confidence of investors, market intermediaries, and other stakeholders due to prolonged irregularities in the capital market over the past decade, which have hindered the market's development and growth.
He also mentioned that, with new leadership following the fall of the Awami League government on 5 August, the regulator now plans to establish a capital market taskforce for reforms.
This taskforce will include representation from a wide range of professionals and communities and will conduct in-depth focus group discussions with stakeholders, according to the BSEC official.
Additionally, the DSE Brokers Association held a meeting on Thursday afternoon with the top 20 stockbrokers to discuss the capital market situation.
