Bangladesh Coast Guard increases patrolling and surveillance in coastal areas on the occasion of Durga Puja
The Coast Guard Headquarters staff officer, Operations Lieutenant Commander Salman, gave this information in a press conference organised at the Coast Guard headquarters in Agargaon, the capital, on Thursday, October 3.
He said that since its inception, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has been playing an essential role in protecting the overall law and order of the coastal area, providing security to the religious people, religious places of worship, and essential structures and protecting the life and property of the public.
Recently, when the law and order situation in the country deteriorated, the Bangladesh Coast Guard was responsible for protecting essential government buildings as well as various religious places of worship. According to the government's instructions, the Bangladesh Coast Guard is working to ensure the overall security of the spiritual places of worship and the puja mandap on the occasion of the autumn Durga Puja, the great festival of the Hindus living in the coastal areas.

Among the coastal areas, the Coast Guard is responsible for the overall security of Dhaka Zone 37, East Zone (Chittagong) 50, West Zone (Mongla) 130 and South Zone (Bhola) 82, a total of 299 temples and puja mandap. Bangladesh Coast Guard is ready to protect people's lives and places of worship from any vandalism in the ongoing situation of Durga Puja and to deal with any unpleasant situation.
On the day of the idol's dedication, the Coast Guard launched public awareness campaigns on various issues, including preventing overenthusiastic people from boarding boats beyond capacity, ensuring the wearing of life jackets by all while on board, and advising non-swimmers not to board ships.
Also, the Coast Guard's special diving team will always be ready for rescue in case of untoward incidents like boat capsizing at idol worship sites.
He also said that the Coast Guard's public security activities will continue from 01 October 2024 until the day of the statue's dedication.
