Commendable initiatives by Kaharole upazila administration
Kaharole Upazila in Dinajpur is progressing through several commendable and long-term plans initiated by the upazila administration.
One of these initiatives includes the renovation of the local Scout building, which had been unused for years.
The building was restored with new toilets, water connections, and painting in March 2024. It is now being regularly used for meetings and indoor training sessions, and Kaharole has been recognised as the best upazila in Dinajpur for its contributions to scouting.
In the cultural sector, the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy branch in Kaharole, which had been inactive for years, was revived this year.
In February, seven instructors were appointed to teach music, dance, percussion, and fine arts, with 130 students now attending regular classes.
Additionally, the administration has worked with NGOs like World Vision, Polli Sree, ESDO, and BRAC to create a database of indigenous families in the upazila.
This has led to the construction of 195 toilets for households lacking sanitation facilities, ensuring 100% coverage for indigenous families.
Efforts to preserve local heritage include the restoration of the 200-year-old Nayabad Mosque.
The mosque has been made more accessible to visitors, with boundary walls, guest rooms, and improvements to its surrounding area.
The administration is also successfully generating revenue by renting out spaces in the Kaharole Freedom Fighters' Complex, which had been vacant for years, and has resolved disputes related to the construction of a model mosque.
These initiatives, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Aminul Islam, have earned praise for contributing to sustainable development and improving the local infrastructure.
