2 abducted farmers return home after paying ransom
Police have rescued a youth three days after he was abducted in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf upazila and arrested three people in this connection.
Of the arrestees, Amir Ahmed, 55, from Dakshin Shilkhali area of the upazila, an uncle of the victim, had masterminded the crime over a land dispute, said police.
Two other arrestees are Abchar Uddin Prakash Rayhan, 33 and Jashim Uddin, 35 from Hnila union of the same upazila.
During primary interrogation, they confessed that Amir Ahmed was the main planner of the abduction of his nephew, Belal Uddin, 32, a resident of Baharchhara union of Teknaf, over a land dispute with him. They had also hired a Rohingya individual named Shafi to abduct the victim, said Teknaf police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Gias Uddin.
They had demanded Tk70-40 lakh after abducting Belal on the night of 15 October.
A one-shooter gun, 2 rounds of cartridges and other sharp weapons were also recovered from the arrestees, added the OC.
Two cases have been filed on charges of abduction and the recovery of arms.
The process is ongoing to produce the arrestees before the court.
"Efforts are underway to nab others in this connection," added the OC.
2 abducted farmers return home after paying ransom
In another incident, two farmers from Tenaf returned home on Wednesday, a day after they were abducted from the upazila's Hoaikong area on Tuesday morning.
They are – Md Absar, 28, from Kambania Para area and Nurul Alam, 23, from Maheshkhalia Para area of Teknaf.
Relatives of the victims had communicated with the abductors and freed them after paying ransom, said Hoaikong Union Parishad Chairman Nur Ahmad.
However, the amount of the ransom is yet to be ascertained as the families of the victims are not providing details at this moment, added the chairman.
Teknaf OC Muhammad Gias Uddin said they were not informed about the incident. However, the police will look into the matter.
According to Cox's Bazar police and victims' families, 135 people, including 54 Rohingya, have been abducted from different areas of Teknaf in the last year. At least 69 of them have been rescued after paying ransom.
