Wife burns to death as ex-husband allegedly sets house on fire locking her up inside

A 22-year-old woman in Gazipur's Kaliakair burnt to death in a fire allegedly set by her ex-husband after locking the woman and her mother inside the house, according to police and locals.
The deceased has been identified as Morshedha Begum, daughter of Mokbul Mia of Nator Sadar, said Kaliakair Police Station Officer-In-Charge Jafar Ali Khan.
"Her mother Fuljahan Begum, 40, who was also inside the house during the incident, is in a critical condition with 65% of her body burned. She is currently under treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn & Plastic Surgery.
"The ex-husband, identified as Tanvir Hossain, is currently on the run," the OC added.
He also said the body of the deceased has been sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
"A case will be filed in this regard if the relatives of the victims file a complaint. The incident is being investigated. We will soon unearth who is responsible for it."
According to locals, the incident happened just three days after Morsheda divorced Tanveer.
The fire was set last night at around 3:00am.
They said screams could be heard from Morsheda's house in the late hours of Wednesday night. When they reached the spot, they found out that the house was burning and was locked from outside.
"Before her death, Morsheda kept saying, 'My husband set the fire. Please save my mother'," said Md Parvez, landlord of the house Morsheda lived in.
