Bangladesh selects 'Boli' (The Wrestler) for Oscars
'Boli', a Bangladeshi film directed by Iqbal H Chowdhury has been selected to represent Bangladesh at the 97th Academy Awards in the "Best International Feature Film category."
Actor Nasir Uddin Khan who played the lead role in the film said, "I am thrilled to hear the news that our movie 'Boli' (The Wrestler) is going to the Oscars from Bangladesh. Sending heartfelt love and congratulations to the entire Boli team!"
The film is inspired by real-life - a sport called 'Boli Khela' – a form of traditional wrestling from Chattogram.
In a previous conversation with TBS, the director shared his experience with the film.
"As a filmmaker, I tried to create a 'world' as immersive, interesting or unique as possible," commented Iqbal.
The film has seen noteworthy achievements, winning awards from prestigious film festivals such as the Busan International Film Festival.
However, the film is yet to be released in Bangladesh.
