Liverpool secure £29m deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili, set to join in 2025
Despite the agreement, Mamardashvili will remain with Valencia for the 2024-25 season before making the move to Anfield for the 2025-26 campaign.
Liverpool have agreed to sign Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in a deal worth up to £29 million. The 23-year-old shot-stopper will join the Reds, pending a work permit and international clearance, for an initial fee of £25 million, with an additional £4 million in performance-related add-ons.
Despite the agreement, Mamardashvili will remain with Valencia for the 2024-25 season before making the move to Anfield for the 2025-26 campaign. Current Liverpool first-choice keeper Alisson Becker will maintain his position, with new manager Arne Slot also having Republic of Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher as a backup option this season.
Mamardashvili featured prominently in Georgia's Euro 2024 campaign, helping them reach the last 16 before being eliminated by eventual champions Spain. Since joining Valencia in 2021, he has made 102 appearances and has started both of their fixtures this season, suffering defeats to Barcelona and Celta Vigo.
Liverpool opted to secure the Georgian keeper now due to increasing interest from other clubs, ensuring they added him to their future plans before he became unavailable.
Alisson, who has two years remaining on his contract with an option for a further year, has supported the move, recognizing Mamardashvili's potential to strengthen Liverpool's goalkeeping depth for the years ahead.
